Cambridgeshire Country House
Suprisingly this beautiful country house set in the Cambridgeshire countryside is not a listed building. We were delighted to be asked to carry out various works on such an imposing building. The project included internal works and decoration, sash window repairs and renovation, re-location of a door entrance, crack repairs and re-pointing, and bespoke carpentry.
First of all we were commissioned to move a doorway, closing the original door and copying the
entrance to provide access to another wing of the house.
The original door was carefully removed and restored for re-use in the new opening. The door framewas removed and discarded.
Reclaimed bricks were sourced locally to match the existing and the aperture was bricked up inside and out, leaving evidence or the original design.
We then constructed an oak doorframe to house the door in it's new location, a bespoke brick lintel was commisioned to match the original, and a new aperture opened up. The doorstep was cast in place ustilising cement dye to provide a feature to match the original.
An extensive survey of the property revealed several areas of cracked masonry caused by historic movement.
Using the Helibeam system the cracks were carefully raked out to enable
insertion of Stainles Steel helical re-inforcement bars to stabilise the walls. A program of re-pointing using lime mortar was the implemented to protect masonry joints and prevent excessive moisture ingress and frost damage.
